Rarity, quality, and story are the buzz words in our collector vocabulary, and while plenty of modern "Limited Editions" are anything but, there are the rare exceptions that get our hearts beating a little faster than normal.

This is one of those exceptions.

In 1994, Omega released a series of special pieces to commemorate 100 years of the brand. This model, simply named the "1894" is one of them. Featuring an 18k Rose Gold case with simple lugs, the 1894 is powered by a simple, hand-cranking Calibre .269 movement, visible through a sapphire display back. While all 1894 models feature a briliant sector dial design with crosshair printing, applied Roman markers, oversized subsidiary seconds register, and gold feuille hands, this particular example was produced for the Japanese Domestic Market, and is further differentiated with a blue and gold two-tone design. Other markets were limited to a simpler monotone gold dial layout.

In nearly mint condition, this watch comes accompanied by its original Omega signed clasp and solid gold pin buckle, as well as a pair of Certificates - one from Omega, and one produced for the Omegamania sale put on by Antiqourum in partnership with Omega in 2007, when it was last offered publicly. Both are signed by the CEO of Omega with matching case and movement numbers.

This might be a contemporary piece, but it checks all of the right boxes - rare, built to exacting standards, with a great history!

The Story

Omega is, without question, one of the few true powerhouses of the Swiss watch industry.

With instant brand recognition the world-over, Omega has been on the leading edge of research and development for timepieces ranging from simple chronometer-rated dress pieces, to professional grade diving watches and of course their legendary moon watches.

Worn by dignitaries, celebrities, explorers, James Bond, and mere mortals like us, Omega continues to this day to make some of the most desirable timepieces in the world, and is the cornerstone brand of the Swatch Group.

With roots dating back to 1894, Omega also has an incredible track record of collectible hits, and in 1994 released a series of commemorative models to celebrate their centennial. Rarely released from collections, these special piece pay homage to their roots with simple case designs, elegant dials, and proper manual-winding movements.
