Why We Love it
–Much like Cartier, Hermès is a brand that has historically been about design first, function second.
That being said, in recent years, the maison has shaken the watch world with not only new, modern, and original designs — but also with their push into developing their own movements in partnership with Voucher.
One of the finest examples of the brand’s watchmaking savoir faire is the Slim D'Hermès line introduced in 2015.
This particular piece, a GMT variant, features a 39mm rose gold case with a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, a polished bezel, a pump pusher at 10:00, and a gorgeous, navy blue 'gradient' dial with printed 'Arabic' indices, a subsidiary 12hr indicator, a subsidiary date indicator, and twin day-night indicators.
Powered by Hermès' Calibre 5200/2 automatic winding movement with micro-rotor, it comes paired to a signed navy blue alligator leather strap with a signed rose gold pin buckle.
While many brands are stuck firmly in the past, reissuing streams of vintage-inspired fare, Hermès is heading boldly into the future of horological design.
We say: bravo!
Brand Story
+
Brand Story
+The maison began a furious push to vertically integrate in 2006, purchasing a 25% stake in movement maker Vaucher; this was followed by the purchase in 2012 of a dial manufacturer and a case maker in 2013. The results have been some of the most stunning timepieces of the past decade, including the gorgeous Slim d’Hermès with its unique, cut-out typeface, and the Arceau L’Heure De La Lune moonphase. From entry-level dress watches such as the Galop d’Hermès — designed by American industrial designer Ini Archibong — to GPHG-winning creations such as the Arceau Robe du Soir, the maison has more than proven its horological savoir faire.
