Measuring approximately 23cm long (a little over 9 inches), it recreates the legendary Lotus-Renault 97T\/98T driven by Senna during the 1985–1986 Formula 1 seasons, complete with its unmistakable John Player Special and Olympus Cameras sponsorships. It was an important period in Senna’s career: driving for Lotus, he scored his first Formula 1 victory at the 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix. He quickly established himself as one of the sport’s defining talents.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eProduced during the 90s or early 2000s, the sculpture was created using one of Compulsion Gallery’s signature techniques. Rather than being cast from solid metal, a high-density resin core was thermal-plated in lead-free pewter, then hand-polished and lacquered. The process gives the piece a satisfyingly substantial weight and cool metallic feel, while allowing plenty of detail in the open wheels, aerodynamic bodywork, cockpit, wings, and period sponsor lettering.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eCompulsion Gallery specialized in oversized automotive, sporting sculptures, and movie memorabilia before eventually disappearing, and its pieces have since developed a following among “petrolheads” and automobilia collectors.
