It was purchased in 1965 on a navy\/army\/air force base in Europe and is accompanied by its original sales recepit, box, hangtag, and an Extract from the Archives of Omega. Powered by the legendary Calibre .321 hand-cranking chronograph movement - considered to be one of the best movements ever designed, this piece features a 38.5mm stainless steel 'straight-lug' HF case, a correct DO90 bezel showing honest wear, an excellent matte black Tritium dial showing a deep patination throughout, and a stainless steel flat-link bracelet with a signed blade casp.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eEveryone should own a Speedmaster at one point in their collecting endeavors. For diving watches in particular, the 60s were very much the Golden Era as countless brands competed for recognition and success in the rapidly expanding market of amateur SCUBA. Many of these brands still exist today, with their current collections echoing the design sensibilities of the decade of their origin. Still, many brand names were lost to time, leaving remnants of their former glory for us to find and explore in the sock drawers and workshops of the watch community.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne such brand is Mirexal - a brand not so much lost to time as just generally unknown to most of the world. At one time, Mirexal was the house brand for the retail store chain Migros, the largest company of its kind in Switzerland, and the single largest employer in the country. While\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"http:\/\/shop.analogshift.com\/collections\/tradition-sold\/products\/tradition-chronograph-by-sears-panda-dial\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ehouse brand watches\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003efrom this time period aren't completely impossible to find, it comes as no shock to us that those retailed only in Switzerland were really on a whole other level.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWith a simple and rugged ETA 2783 beating away inside, this particular watch has all the hallmarks of a purpose-built 60s diver that we so adore: Large cushion case with crisp beveling and rotating (unidirectional!) steel bezel, locking crown, and bright, luminescent hands. With an interesting two tone matte grey\/metallic blue dial, pointed crown guards and acrylic domed crystal, this is by far one of our favorite dive-watch finds in awhile, regardless of brand name.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMigros still exists (and is a must-visit when next you are in Switzerland), but Mirexal is very much a ghost from their past. The name \u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003ereferences its unique 3-notched caseback which requires a special tool to remove, but the watch itself is perhaps the most pure execution of a no-frills robust \"tool\" watch before there were tool watches. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn excellent condition throughout, this Reference 4142 features a blued steel handset, luminous Arabic indices, a large winding crown and a stunning dial that has turned to a light-champagne color. Most divers rely on a rotating bezel to calculate how much time is remaining for their dive. However, that heightened desirability comes with a price tag to match, making other variants mighty promising.
