Snowflakes and Monte Carlo chronographs have been hot for some time, but one of the most exciting and dynamic parts of the Tudor market are the simpler Oyster Princes and DateJust and Oyster Precision analogs, which are being “found” after decades hiding in the backs of drawers, garnering the attention that these beauties deserve.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe “Big Rose” Oyster Prince is one of the best of the once-forgotten Tudors, featuring a stunning applied Tudor Rose logo and matching polished steel markers and hands set on a sharp black dial. Dating from the 1960s, this Tudor Reference 7964 is 34mm and wears similarly to Rolex Oysterdates. The Tudor uses the same Genuine Oyster Case design as its Rolex contemporaries, but is fitted with an automatic ETA movement. Tudor released a Heritage Chronograph, modeled after on of their original exotic dialed chronos, known to collectors as the “Homeplate”. All of the vintage exotic chronos are surging in popularity, and represent the best of vintage Tudor in the eyes of many collectors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis reference 7159 “Monte Carlo” in many ways speaks for itself. With it’s Oyster case, unique gray dial with black subregisters and orange accents, any collector can recognize the heavy Rolex influence and funky 70s vibe a mile away. At the time when Rolex was only producing 36mm Daytonas, Tudor was given the task of pushing the design envelope for the company, taking the risks that Rolex would not. Sure, Rolex had the Paul Newman Daytona, but even that looks a bit dull next to a Monte Carlo. Given the insane six-figure pricetag of a Newman today, it’s not surprise that Rolex collectors have taken a strong interest in Tudor’s Oyster chronos, even years before the Tudor brand became a household name.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePowered by a manually wound Valjoux 234 movement, the Tudor differs from the Daytona a bit in terms of functionality. The Monte Carlo sways the Daytona’s hours chronograph subregister for a date, and counts up to 45 minutes. The cyclops date magnifier is a Rolex\/Tudor trademark touch, but these Tudor chronos are the only instance of it found at 6 o’clock, and if you look closely, you’ll see that the crystal is not a standard “Top Hat” spun around, but the magnifier itself is rotated 90 degrees to a horizontal orientation over the date. Even if you’ve never been much of a cyclops fan, on this watch it just works!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Monte Carlo is a fantastic addition to any collections on its own merits, but compared to it’s Rolex Oyster Chronograph cousin, it’s a downright bargain. At a third the price of a no-frills Big Red Daytona, it’s hard to resist of Monte Carlo given its identical build quality and off-beat design.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe at analog\/shift are huge vintage Tudor fans, and often find ourselves preferring the Tudor version of a watch compared to the Rolex. It seems like everyone and their mother is wearing a vintage Rollie these days, so a Tudor is a great way to enjoy everything that made the brand the icon it is, while managing to stick out from the Of particular desirability are the non-date \"Snowflake\" models as offered here, an iconic diver if there ever was one.  A contemporary to the Rolex 5512\/13 series, the Reference 7016\/0 Tudor Submariner is the first model to be fitted with Snowflake style hands, and this example comes with a matte black dial and applied tritium markers, making it a powerful argument against going with the In 1933, strapped watches onto the wrists of the first pilots to fly over Mount Everest. In 1935, Sir Malcolm Campbell was wearing an Oyster Perpetual as he set a land speed record of over 300 miles per hour at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.  Every time a watch was put to the test, Rolex was there to collect the data, vigilantly tweaking and modifying their timepieces to ensure durability and accuracy.  \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe expedition to Greenland was a perfect opportunity to test the growing line of Tudor sport watches - timepieces that were designed to be hearty workhorses with automatic movements and waterproof oyster cases.  Despite the extreme weather conditions and barrage of ice, snow and water, the Oyster Princes were a success, proving their reliability and accuracy. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn November of 1953, one of the crew, Captain J.D. The 'Home Plate,' nicknamed for the baseball home plate shape of the hour plots, is the OG Tudor chronograph, and Tudor sure has hell got it right the first time.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen Tudor returned to their roots and successfully reinvigorated the brand with heritage-inspired new releases, their first move wasn’t a Snowflake Sub or Oyster Prince. Tudor released a Heritage Chronograph, modeled after on of their original exotic dialed chronos, known to collectors as the “Homeplate”. All of the vintage exotic chronos are surging in popularity, and represent the best of vintage Tudor in the eyes of many collectors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLet’s break this watch down. First off, the black Bakelite bezel is incredibly cool, and our favorite vintage bezel material. It’s attached to a 40mm Oyster case, which is the perfect size for any wrist, and looks oh so good with the screw-down pushers. However, the dial steals the show, and it alone explains why the Home Plate has become such a hotly sought after watch. Tudor has always been the branch of the Rolex company that took the risks and pushed the envelope, and all of their chronos are killer. The huge tritium lume plots are unlike anything else out there, and with a nice creamy patina, add tons of vintage charm.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePowered by a manually wound Valjoux 7734 movement, the Tudor differs from the Daytona a bit in terms of functionality. The Monte Carlo sways the Daytona’s hours chronograph subregister for a date, and counts up to 45 minutes.   The cyclops date magnifier is a Rolex\/Tudor trademark touch, but these Tudor chronos are the only instance of it found at 6 o’clock, and if you look closely, you’ll see that the crystal is not a standard “Top Hat” spun around, but the magnifier itself is rotated 90 degrees to a horizontal orientation over the date. In 1933, strapped watches onto the wrists of the first pilots to fly over Mount Everest. In 1935, Sir Malcolm Campbell was wearing an Oyster Perpetual as he set a land speed record of over 300 miles per hour at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.  Every time a watch was put to the test, Rolex was there to collect the data, vigilantly tweaking and modifying their timepieces to ensure durability and accuracy.  \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe expedition to Greenland was a perfect opportunity to test the growing line of Tudor sport watches - timepieces that were designed to be hearty workhorses with automatic movements and waterproof oyster cases.  Despite the extreme weather conditions and barrage of ice, snow and water, the Oyster Princes were a success, proving their reliability and accuracy. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn November of 1953, one of the crew, Captain J.D. The watch's relative obscurity is certainly not due to its style or features, as the watch ticks about every box that vintage collectors could imagine.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFirst off, the case is 39mm, about the same size as a Submariner. Many would consider that to be the perfect “Goldilocks” size, not too big, not too small - just right. It gives the watch a modern vibe without compromising the vintage bona fides.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Rolex Day-Date is a classic and its style, history and quality is unimpeachable, yet if were to nitpick, the only thing we’d change is to make it available in steel. In the past half-century that Rolex has been producing the model, it has never sold one in a non-precious metal, much to the chagrin of budget-minded collectors. Considering that the Rolex is closer to a dress watch than a sports watch, it’s pretty remarkable the Tudor, under Rolexes stewardship, created the sporty 7020\/0 with Rolex’s signature complication.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe icing on the cake is the rotating steel bezel, another sporty flourish that complements the case size and ties the 7020\/0 to the range of Rolex sports pieces, most of which feature a functional bezel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll in all, this is fantastically versatile and unique Tudor. It’s a little sporty, a little dressy, just about the perfect do anything, go anywhere daily wearer. Tudor released a Heritage Chronograph, modeled after on of their original exotic dialed chronos, known to collectors as the “Homeplate”. All of the vintage exotic chronos are surging in popularity, and represent the best of vintage Tudor in the eyes of many collectors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis Reference 7159 “Monte Carlo” in many ways speaks for itself. With it’s Oyster case, unique gray dial with black subregisters and orange accents, any collector can recognize the heavy Rolex influence and funky 70s vibe a mile away. At the time when Rolex was only producing 36mm Daytonas, Tudor was given the task of pushing the design envelope for the company, taking the risks that Rolex would not. Sure, Rolex had the Paul Newman Daytona, but even that looks a bit dull next to a Monte Carlo. Given the insane six-figure pricetag of a Newman today, it’s not surprise that Rolex collectors have taken a strong interest in Tudor’s Oyster chronos, even years before the Tudor brand became a household name.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePowered by a manually wound Valjoux 234 movement, the Tudor differs from the Daytona a bit in terms of functionality. The Monte Carlo sways the Daytona’s hours register for a date, and counts up to 45 minutes. The cyclops date magnifier is a Rolex\/Tudor trademark touch, but these Tudor chronos are the only instance of it found at 6 o’clock, and if you look closely, you’ll see that the crystal is not a standard “Top Hat” spun around, but the magnifier itself is rotated 90 degrees to a horizontal orientation over the date. Even if you’ve never been much of a cyclops fan, on this watch it just works!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Monte Carlo is a fantastic addition to any collections on its own merits, but compared to it’s Rolex Oyster Chronograph cousin, it’s a downright bargain. At a quarter the price of a no-frills Big Red Daytona, it’s hard to resist of Monte Carlo given its identical build quality and off-beat design.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe at analog\/shift are huge vintage Tudor fans, and often find ourselves preferring the Tudor version of a watch compared to the Rolex. rolling out chronographs driven by automatic Valjoux drivetrains, a fact that is often overlooked when the conversation veers toward collectible vintage chronos. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 'Big Block', which was released in 1974 succeeding the much-loved Monte Carlo, marked an impressive leap for Tudor, largely due to the introduction of the Valjoux 7750 Automatic movement.  In addition to bringing the perk of self-winding technology to Tudor's popular line, the new drivetrain included an hour register and a quick-set date, features that made the watch more functional and more enjoyable The stainless steel case has the look and feel of the original, but with Tudor's branding: the rose on the crown and the shield on the case back.
