Why We Love it

The Aquanaut may be one of the most important modern luxury sport watches on the market.

The Reference 5060J, launched in 1996 for the 20th anniversary of the Nautilus, was a sort of transitional watch. Borrowing features from the Nautilus but doing away with the famed case “ears” of that porthole-inspired model and adding lugs, it provided the basis for the Reference 5060A in 1997, the first model actually bearing the Aquanaut name. The Aquanaut would go on to form the basis of a full collection of luxury sports watches that provided the entry point into the Patek Philippe catalog.

This particular Aquanaut, the Reference 5065J-001, is a particularly special combination of precious metal and a wildly cool dial. Dating to circa 1999, it features a 39mm yellow gold case, a sapphire crystal, a lovely anthracite textured Tritium hobnail dial with printed indices and a matching matching handset, and Patek's Calibre 315 SC automatic movement with date function and center sweep seconds within. It comes outfitted to a correct black Aquanaut rubber strap with a signed, 18K gold deployant clasp.

What’s more, this 5065J-001 comes with its inner and outer boxes, books, accompanying paperwork, certificate of origin, polishing cloth, and uncut extra straps. Dating to the 1990s, its case is in excellent condition, showing only light wear throughout.

If a luxury sports watch is what you’re after, stop right here — this is one of the best!

Overall Condition

The case is in outstanding condition overall showing only light wear from gentle use. Anthracite textured 'hobnail' dial with printed 'Arabic' and Tritium indices is in excellent condition with matching handset. 18K signed crown.

Brand Story

+
Patek Philippe.

Founded in 1839, Patek Philippe is one of the oldest watch manufacturers in the world with an uninterrupted watchmaking history. Few luxury brands in the world carry the gravitas of their name, and for good reason. The firm's commitment to excellence in horological manufacture is unflinching, and their track record of innovation in design without peer.  They continue to lead the industry, and even their fiercest competitors have nothing but the utmost respect for the company.

Owning a Patek Philippe is for many the ultimate goal of timepiece collecting, and for a certain type, the only timepieces they collect. Whichever way you look at it, there is no questioning the elegance of design, superlative manufacture of their cases and movements, or the sheer elegance and emotion that comes from owning one.

Of course for a brand that is steeped in heritage, we are told ‘You never actually own a Patek Philippe…”

Well, you know the rest.
